Do you take insurance?
No, at this time I do not take insurance. I am considered an “out of network” provider. I can accept HSA/FSA payments and have sliding scale spots reserved based on availability. More information on insurance and rates.
Are you LGBTQIA+ affirming?
Yes, and I am committed to providing safe, compassionate, and affirming care. You are safe and accepted here, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or wherever you currently land on your journey. I can also provide quality referrals to other clinicans specializing in LGBTQIA+ issues if your needs fall outside of my scope of practice and expertise.
Are you a Christian Counselor?
No, and here’s what that means. Christian Counseling is a type of specialized therapy that incorporates traditional talk therapy with Christian principles and theological concepts. I am trained as a professional clinical counselor, meaning my role is to help you process, reflect and grow in your life. Your experience of faith can be a part of that process, however, I won’t share or add my own ideas of theology, God, or Christianity in session in the way that a Christian Counselor might. My ethics as a professional clinical counselor guide me to respect the beliefs of all clients and not force my own personal values or beliefs onto any client – be it faith-related or otherwise! Read more about this in section A.4.b “Personal Values” in the ACA Code of Ethics (top left corner of page 5).
We may also sit with your questions and doubts around faith and religion. I frequently work with those who have experienced religious trauma, abuse, or are deconstructing from their faith. I have no hidden agenda when it comes to religion and will not try to change your beliefs to reflect my own.
What does the counseling process look like with you?
- You reach out via email on my website contact page or Three Cords Therapy’s website.
- We set up an appointment for an intake session.
- I send you intake paperwork via email to fill out electronically. This paperwork includes consent forms, practice policies, a Good Faith Estimate, a few short assessments to screen for depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder, and an intake questionnaire to get to know your history and desire for seeking counseling.
- We meet for our intake session, a 50 minute session where we get to know one another, I ask questions based on your intake forms to understand your background and counseling goals, and you ask me any questions you want. I’ll check in at the end of session to see how it felt for you and if you would like to schedule another appointment. You can choose to do so in session, or go home and consider whether we are the right fit and reach back out via email to schedule.
- If we are not the right fit at any point in the counseling process (not just at the beginning), you have the right to end counseling. If I feel I am not able to best meet your needs I may also discuss this with you and provide referrals to other therapists.
How do I get to your office?
I am a part of a private practice called Three Cords Therapy located at 49 Music Square East, Nashville, TN 37203.
- If arriving by car: there is a parking lot located behind our office and street parking available on nearby side streets, but be sure to pay attention to signs.
- If arriving by bus: our location is accessible to many bus stops using WeGo bus Route 17 12th Avenue South and getting off at 12th & South Street, Route 7 Hillsboro and getting off at 21st & Grand Ave, or bus Route 75 Midtown and getting off at Edgehill & 17th Avenue South. Our office will be a short walk from either bus stop. I recommend using the WeGo app and Google Maps to navigate the bus schedule and stops easily.
- If arriving by bike: there are bike lanes on 16th and 17th Avenue that are safe and easy to use. You can park and lock your bike on the front, side, or back of our building.
Do you meet online or in person?
Either, depending on your preference! My office is located in central Nashville on Music Row for in person sessions. Telehealth is also available using our client portal, Simple Practice, which is HIPAA-compliant and easy to use. You can decide to come in person sometimes and virtual other times – it’s up to you and your circumstances.
Can I see you if I’m not in Tennessee?
Unfortunately, no. Due to licensing laws, you must live in Tennessee in order to see me.
