Therapy for Trauma & Abuse Recovery in Nashville, Tennessee
Trauma is the Greek word for “wound.” Without realizing it, we can often undermine our experiences of trauma because it doesn’t look as visible or sound as bad as someone else’s. We all have wounds, and as a trauma therapy practice in Nashville, I am here to help you heal the ones you’ve been carrying for too long.
Trauma therapy might be right for you if you want to restore a sense of safety, connection and empowerment in your relationship to yourself and the world around you.

Trauma doesn’t always look the way we expect. You might be experiencing:
- Numbness, disconnection, or feeling like you’re going through the motions
- A constant sense of hyper-vigilance or feeling like you always need to be on guard
- Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories
- Physical symptoms like tension, insomnia, fatigue, stomach issues or chronic pain
- Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe in relationships
- Patterns of people-pleasing, over-functioning, or shrinking yourself to feel safe
- Shame, self-blame, or a deep sense that something is fundamentally wrong with you
- Avoidance that creates challenges in your daily rhythms and relationships
- Irritability, low mood or trouble feeling in control of your emotions
If any of these feel familiar, you’re not broken; you’re someone whose nervous system learned to adapt and survive.
Types of Trauma I Work With
I provide trauma therapy in Nashville for women and music industry professionals navigating a range of experiences, including:
Childhood Trauma
The wounds we carry from childhood are deeply impactful. They shape our attachment patterns, our self-worth, our idea of who we are and how we show up in our relationships as adults.
PTSD & C-PTSD
Post-traumatic stress disorder can develop after a single overwhelming event, in the case of complex PTSD, after prolonged or repeated trauma over time, like childhood abuse and neglect.
Sexual Abuse & Assault
Healing from sexual trauma takes courage, safety-building, and a holistic, mind-body approach. Most essentially, it takes a trauma-informed therapist you can trust.
Physical, Emotional & Psychological Abuse
All forms of abuse leave wounds, not just physical abuse. Gaslighting, manipulation, and chronic criticism can leave deep pain and webs of confusion that need untangling.
The Trauma Therapy Process With Julia
I work from a trauma-focused lens, which compassionately shifts the guiding question of therapy from “what is wrong with you?” to “what happened to you?” This process involves three key phases:
- Stabilization: We will spend our early sessions getting to know each other and building the trust and grounding tools needed to prepare your nervous system for the often uncomfortable experience of processing trauma.
- Processing: With a foundation of safety and trust in place, we can help you reprocess traumatic experiences using evidence-based techniques like EMDR, Brainspotting, Narrative Therapy (Story Work) and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy.
- Integration: During and after processing trauma, we will integrate new insights and emotional shifts that have emerged to strengthen your post-traumatic growth and help your mind and body settle into this new, empowered way of carrying what happened to you.
If you’ve experienced trauma, you may not have the words or even the complete memories to describe what happened to you. That’s okay, and more common than you might think. The approaches I use don’t require you to retell your story in detail. Instead, we work with what your body and emotions already know, gently following those signals to help you process and heal at your own pace.
